This was just too close a re-telling to work for me. It just comes across as the story of a complete jerk sexually harassing his very young employee, and her ending up back with him; and that's not a book for me. A more metaphorical take on the "madwoman in the attic" would have worked far better than this very literal version. How did Rathburn not end up in prison for locking his wife in third-floor room, a crime that results in her death? And why does literature still persist in portraying people with schizophrenia as violent, raving, fire-starting, sneaky-stabbing murderers? Gah.
